Cholesterol and Health

To Your Heart!February is Heart Health Month so I want to start the month out by sharing a little known fact about our friend cholesterol. That’s right, cholesterol is our friend. You see, when there is damage in our bodies, it causes inflammation. Inflammation results in damaged tissues. Cholesterol is the body’s firefighter, if you will. It responds to inflammation by putting down a protective layer to halt the damage done. The problem is that when we continue to do things that cause inflammation in our bodies, the body reacts by sending our Mr. Cholesterol to lay down more and more layers. This then can eventually form a clot. When this happens in the delicate membranes of our arteries, it can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Eating a low cholesterol diet and ignoring the inflammation problem is like sending out a group of firefighters each time there is a flare up and then resetting the fire once they leave. The key to healthy arteries is to reduce inflammation by removing inflammatory foods from the diet such as wheat and dairy, and increasing non inflammatory foods such as nuts, fatty fish like salmon and tuna, fresh green vegetables, fruits, and avocado. I highly recommend Standard Process Cod Liver Oil capsules to supplement healthy fatty acids and Omega 3’s. It also contains Vitamin E, D, and A.Another key point about cholesterol is that this substance is instrumental in producing hormones in the body. So if you eat a low cholesterol diet, you may experience hormonal issues such as weight gain, depression, anxiety and low sex drive. So you see, reducing inflammation is key to good health and eating foods rich in cholesterol is actually vital to your well being.Other things you can do to help reduce inflammation in the body are to exercise in moderation, drink plenty of clean water and get your rest. Remember that inflammation is a factor in all disease so act like your life depends on reducing it, because it does. Here is a heart healthy anti inflammatory recipe to help!Anti Inflammatory Heart Healthy Smoothie Recipe½ Bananna¼ Cup Pineapple2 Scoops SP COMPLETE DAIRY FREE½ Cup Spinach8 Ounces Filtered Water5-8 Ice CubesSP COMPLETE DAIRY FREE POWDER Contains- Rice protein concentrate, flax meal powder, calcium citrate, magnesium citrate, buckwheat (leaf), Brussels sprouts (whole plant), kale (whole plant)†, inositol, alfalfa (whole plant) juice powder†, sunflower lecithin powder, grape (seed) extract (includes Masquelier’s® OPC-85), carrot (root) powder, and resveratrol.

Chiropractic is Good for Business

- Google has embraced it. So have Apple and Facebook. In fact, they're part of a growing trend among businesses -- at least those that recognize the link between healthy bottom lines and healthy employees -- to adopt on-site wellness programs that incorporate chiropractic care. "Employers are now seeing that employee health is important beyond health care costs," said Beth Bierbower, president of Humana's Employer Group Segment. "It has profound impacts on productivity, retention, workplace engagement and morale." One of the earliest adoptees was the Wisconsin-based nutritional supplement company Standard Process. So impressed was management back in 1988 with the enthusiasm for an employee-initiated walking program that it ultimately took things a giant step further -- starting a wellness program for its own and other companies' workers called "Cultivate." Its four core pillars: nutrition, fitness, health education and -- yes, you guessed it -- chiropractic care. To date, Standard Process reports approximately 90 percent employee participation, which has resulted in: * Reduced health care claims. * Higher rates of employees committing to health and wellness goals. * Enhanced employee productivity, health, satisfaction and retention. "As evidence emerges further documenting the positive outcomes associated with chiropractic care, I expect a larger number of employers will be impressed and take steps toward inclusion of chiropractic care," said Gerard Clum, DC, of the not-for-profit Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. www.thecolumbuschiropractors.com

Scoliosis

Scoliosis involves lateral bending of the spine with rotation of the spinal bones (vertebrae). Left unchecked, severe scoliosis can cause significant and permanent physical deformities, pinched nerves and organ failure. What can you do to detect, manage, or prevent negative consequences of spinal curvatures or scoliosis? Here are some key facts and tips:-Posture Check your family and friends- Have them stand in front of your and close their eyes. Then look to see if they are aligned across the shoulders and the hips. If even a slight differene in shouloder or hip height is noted get them to a chiropractor right away.- Spinal bracing or surgery may have value in some cases; but braces are uncomfortable and socially awkward, and surgery is a major undertaking. Spinal bones are meant to move. When a section doesn't move, other areas will pick up the resulting mechanical stresses.- Idiopathic adolescent scoliosis may actually be a neurological maturation problem where one side of the body is out of sync with the other. Based on that theory, doctors of chiropractic focus their treatment on the nervous system when faced with idiopathic adolescent scoliosis. Stimulation of spinal joints through chiropractic manipulation provides neurological stimuli to affected joints. In short, chiropractic's focus on the spine and nervous system makes the doctor of chiropractic an ideal choice for diagnosing and treating scoliosis.- Proprioception refers to the central nervous system's ability to: 1) determine where your body parts are in space, and... 2) coordinate those body parts. In conjunction with hands-on spinal care, postural exercises provide feedback to the central nervous system; and when done correctly, may help the body's proprioceptive systems wake up to a correct interpretation of what is straight, versus imbalanced.Do not let scoliosis steal years from your life or life from your years! Get a chiropractic check-up ASAP!In Health, Dr. Bryan Schuetz

What Is The Most Common Disease?

What is the most common disease among humans? Heart disease? Cancer, Diabetes? No, the most common disease is called osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is wear and tear arthritis that attacks joints that have been injured due to trauma or poor posture. Essentially, the joints are damaged and then heal wrong because they are not properly treated. Over time this leads to joint pain and destruction. It then spreads because it has a negative effect on the function of the surrounding joints.

The thing is, this disease is completely preventable.

So how does one prevent this problem? Simple, get regular chiropractic checkups for your spine and joint health. Then listen to the advice of your doctor when it comes to stretching and other lifestyle changes.

If you take care of your spine and joints they will take care of you. If they are neglected, you will be one of the millions who suffer with osteoarthritis as you get older, and that is really not a choice I recommend...

In Health,

Dr. Bryan Schuetz

Reasons To See A Chiropractor

There are 4 main reasons people visit a chiropractor. Which one are you?

1.The person who consults a chiropractor for an ache or a pain During the past 20 years of clinical practice I have treated so many people with so many different aches and pains that I can say that chiropractic is extraordinary in helping this group of people with great results.

2.The person who wants treatment for a health condition From headaches to bunions, digestion problems to stress related conditions, you name it, we have probably seen it in the office, and these people also get great results with chiropractic care!

3.Prevention These are people who have received great results from either an ache or a pain and want to keep the problem from making a return performance. Again…chiropractic makes sense, if it helped to get rid of a problem it should be great at keeping it from coming back.

4.Wellness These individuals understand the impact a healthy lifestyle has on your overall life experience. They take time to exercise, eat right, get proper rest and stay well hydrated. They choose regular chiropractic care because they know that with a healthy functioning spine and nerve system they have the best chance to be well and stay well. They share their healthy lifestyle choices with friends and family which forms an even healthier environment around them. These individuals truly understand that only with more healthy people can we hope to achieve a healthier planet.

No matter what type of patient you are, you probably started off getting adjusted because of a pain or a health condition. Then you realize that chiropractic care feels good and just makes sense. What could be more important than a healthy and properly functioning body?

Once most people have a condition or pain that reoccurs one-to-many times, they decide that regular chiropractic care is good for preventing these flare-ups. Once they see how good they can really feel with prevention, they naturally move to more of a wellness model, adapting more lifestyle choices that add not only years to life but more life to their years!

However you decide to utilize chiropractic in your life, please know that I am here for you and will do my best to help you receive the best in care. I truly do care about your health, and I thank you for your trust.

We do now offer a wellness program for those interested in regular wellness care in our office. We encourage you to ask about special discount pricing next time you are in for an adjustment. Or just give us a call at 614-436-3870
