Chiropractic Adjustment

The Chiropractic Adjustment: From the desk of Dr. Bryan Schuetz, The Columbus Chiropractors, Capital City Chiropractic.

The Chiropractic adjustment is one of the most powerful pain relieving, health building procedures you can do for yourself.

The foundation of all systems of the body is the nervous system. From the time of conception it controls and coordinates every function of every cell throughout your entire life.

The health of the body then, relies on the health of the nervous system.

The nervous system is broken down into 2 main functioning parts, the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).

The Central Nervous System consists of the brain and spinal cord, while the Peripheral Nervous System consists of the over 60 thousand miles of nerves that extend to feed information from the brain to every cell in the body.

The brain is housed inside the skull which provides very good protection and no movement. The brain floats inside the skull in a liquid called cerebro-spinal fluid.

The spine is made up of 24 segments called vertebrae. They allow the spine to be a mobile structure and still provide protection from injury. This ability to move also allows the spine to be more susceptible to injury than the brain as it is housed by the immovable skull.

When a vertebra is injured through trauma or poor posture, the joints between the vertebra can become sprained just like an ankle.

When this happens the joints of the spine pull from their normal position and cause

pinched nerves. When a nerve is pinched it produces pain in the area of injury, but the problems do not stop there. A pinched nerve causes distortion of the messages that leave the brain and communicate with the cells of the body.

Those cells may be muscle cells, skin cells, or even organ cells like the liver, kidneys, prostate, breast, or stomach to name a few.

When this problem is left to its own devices, it causes long term damage to the nerve and all of the cells that that particular nerve is to communicate with.

Think of it like a fax line where damage to the line only allows part of the message to get through. Headquarters (brain), sends a fax to a regional office (cell). Only part of the message gets through. This would lead to distortion of the message and eventually a major breakdown in the communication system.

With a breakdown in the communication system the regional office would fail to operate normally and eventually fail.

This is what happens to the human body when a pinched nerve causes a communication breakdown in the body. Cells and organ systems will be stressed and over time break down without proper nerve function.

Pain is like a smoke detector telling you there is a problem in the nervous system. Many people choose to cover up the pain with pills and potions. This does not solve the problem; just like putting in ear plugs to deafen the sound of a smoke detector does not put out the fire!

Not only does pain killing medicines allow the real problem to continue in the body, but they also have some severe side effects on the body...even death!

So when the pain of a pinched nerve comes your way, get to a chiropractor for an evaluation as to what is causing the pinched nerve, and get a chiropractic adjustment to relieve the nerve, restore life, and reduce pain naturally.

What is The History of The Chiropractic Adjustment?

The chiropractic adjustment has been around sine 1895, when a man named D.D. Palmer adjsuted the spine of a Mr. Harvery Lillard. Lillard was a janitor in the building where Dr. Palmer worked and had suffered with deafness for 17 years after an injury to his neck.

Dr. Palmer examined the patient and determined that there was a bony out of alignment and Mr. Lillard expressed that that was the exact location of the pain that started after the accident 17 years earlier.

He then reasoned that the bone should be aligned normally since it was obviously out of alignment. This then was the first chiropractic adjustment.

Mr. Lillard expressed that the pain was better immediately and then his hearing was restored in a matter of days. This would seem like a miracle but it is really a case of just having proper function restored.

So now over 100 years later there are millions and millions of chiropractic adjustments performed all over the world every day.

There are many different ways to deliver a chiropractic adjustment and what type of adjustment you will receive really depends on a lot of factors that make your condition unique. Your doctor will work with you to determine what is best for you.

Safe, gentle, and natural...the adjustment is the method of choice to relieve the pain and dysfunction of a pinched nerve.
